Greece defeated Slovenia, 88-77, in Athens Friday following the emotional jersey retirement ceremony of Greek great Nikos Galis.

It served as an unofficial rematch of Wednesday’s clash between the two sides in Ljubljana. As the evening opened, Greek basketball legend Nick Galis retired his #4 international jersey.

In addition to the many offseason additions to Panathinaikos, Konstantinos Mitoglou scored 18 points, 14 rebounded, six assists, and two steals to lead the team coached by Dimitris Itoudis to victory. Olympiacos’ Michalis Lountzis added 17 points.

Despite Luka Doncic’s 18 points, he was unable to play in the second half due to injury. His side, coached by Aleksander Sekulic, saw the separation balloon to 20 points after the break.

Next up for Greece is the 32nd Aegean Acropolis Tournament, featuring opponents Serbia on Tuesday and Italy on Thursday. Following that, friendly matches against USA and Germany in Abu Dhabi will be played to conclude their preparation for official action in Group C against Jordan, the USA, and New Zealand in Pasay. As for Slovenia, they will head to Okinawa City for Group F of the World Cup qualifiers. Before competing with Venezuela, Georgia, and Cape Verde in the preliminary round, they have Croatia to face at Ljubljana on Tuesday, then Spain and the USA in Malaga before heading off to Tokyo to play Japan.
